Inspiration behind the Design:
Alright, so I’m assuming you don’t know the full backstory of how EGK was born but before I get into it, let me tell you, that none of my designs have strayed far from the purpose of why EGK was born and this design is no exception. So, assuming you don’t know the backstory of the history of EGK, EGK was - at least delivered to me - through the intermediary of a Kanye West Hollywood Superbowl video on YouTube. I know that sounds crazy, but there was nothing special about it. I was watching ‘Pinocchio Story’ at the Hollywood Rose Bowl for the hundredth time in my life and at this point I didn’t even enjoy the song or the performance. It just has lingering nostalgic memories to me. So I was still watching it once in a while back then. And it was in that mundane, no-frills moment, that God spoke to me and he said, “Y’know, everyone gives Hollywood a really bad name. Everyone says Hollywood is this terrible city and bad things happen there and the Devil own’s Hollywood”. And then he said, “I want it.” THIS MOMENT was the genesis for EVERYTHING else that followed. I want to stress that because this wasn’t a moment within the awakening for me, this was the GENESIS of the awakening. I find that to be pretty incredible.
So that word hit me out of nowhere. And I’m a straight arrow when it comes to this. I’ll tell ya; when Shawn Bolz would talk on his podcast or the stray clippings I saw on YouTube, I would hear him saying things like he would say, “yeah we’re working in Hollywood to produce Christian movies and talk to the actors.” I thought he was a knucklehead and disingenuous for having anything to do with Hollywood. So believe me when I say I didn’t have any sudden change of heart. This Hollywood word from God tied into everything else that followed including why EGK was born. God told me, it’s time for the sons of God to REDEEM our cities and as it says in Revelation 11:15 make the cities of this world be the cities of our God.
That changed everything in my life from that point on. So, ever since I got that word about Hollywood it hasn’t left me, and so I wanted to pay homage to that word from God and it was hard to do it justice. I didn’t want it to be a corny Christian thing that you would have read back on a t-shirt or a billboard in the 90’s. I didn’t want it to feel preachy and out of place if you were to wear it in Hollywood. I didn’t want to say anything like, “Hollywood will be saved” or “Hollywood belongs to Jesus”.
I SERIOUSLY have a heart for music and let's be serious, the devil has the best musicians as you’d have it. And I for one, having a taste for hip hop before I joined the Jesus train was seriously digging the hip hop era of 2010-2015. Those were good days. So when I became a Christian (again) in 2018 the first people I prayed for was for those rappers. I have such a strong passion to see the world’s biggest celebrities and Idol’s become the biggest sensations for Jesus Christ. So when Kanye flipped that was exciting and man, what I say with this t-shirt and no exaggeration, I have a target on all these rappers and headline celebrities and everyday I pray that the worst, the baddest, and most hateful people become the biggest testimonies for Jesus! To God be the Glory!
